Freelance Science Communications Professional

Since April 2011 I have been working on a freelance basis as a writer, editor and consultant on space, astronomy, and other technical subjects.

The European Commission

I work as an Independent Expert for the European Commission since December 2009, helping evaluate space research proposals under the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme.

Past roles

Dhanvantri School

September 2011 to September 2013: Panelist, Dhanvantri School Board.

The German Aerospace Center, DLR

February 2010 to March 2011: Lead English-language Editor for DLR’s English-language website and magazine, and the community coordinator for DLR’s English-language social media channels.

For more information on DLR activities, visit the website. DLR is on Twitter and Facebook too.

You can also subscribe and receive a paper copy of each issue for free.

The European Space Agency

March 2007 to January 2009: Editor for the Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration at the European Space Agency.

I was responsible for written English-language public communication aimed at a wide audience, with the main task being management of the ESA Science site and its subsites, covering about 30 missions.

One of the most exciting parts of this job was the live coverage of the Rosetta Earth swingbys and its flyby of asteroid Steins on the Rosetta blog, and the Herschel and Planck launch in May 2009.

I have contributed to several print publications on ESA missions, some of which are available to read for free below:
